May 18, 2007: At last Lexus has unveiled its much anticipated hot rod, a 400-horsepower version of the current IS four-door sedan. It will be designated the IS-F when it arrives at Lexus dealers in early 2008. The F-code IS is the first-ever true high-performance car from Lexus, and we see it as a legitimate challenger to the forthcoming BMW M3 V8. The IS-F is expected to be quick enough to reach 60 mph in less than 4.9 seconds.

The Urban Cruiser was first seen two years ago as a concept. The production model, which goes on sale later this spring in Europe, will be slotted in size and price below the RAV4. Toyota describes the Urban Cruiser as an “environmentally responsible SUV” with a focus on low emissions and fuel consumption.

May 14, 2007: Toyota’s Geneva press conference was packed. It might have had something to do with the fact that the company’s stand is in an awkward corner of Geneva’s Palexpo with little room for seating. But there’s no getting around the fact that juggernaut Toyota is a big deal right now. And the Toyota Hybrid X isn’t just another funky hybrid concept car. We think it’s a pretty good look at what the third-generation Toyota Prius could be, courtesy of Toyota’s European design studio….

August 04, 2008: CHECK OUT THE HYBRID VS. NON-HYBRID COMPARISON:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/…

Consider this: The 2008 Toyota Prius base model costs 50 percent more than the 2008 Honda Fit base model. Then again, the Prius is 50 percent more fuel-efficient than the Fit when you look at the EPA’s figure for combined mpg. So how does this add up?

You could save $8,425 right now by buying a $15,420 Honda Fit instead of the $23,845 Toyota Prius. Of course, if the price of gasoline goes higher, then the Prius with its EPA combined estimate of 46 mpg will pay you back for your investment sooner than you’d expect. Then again, the Fit with its EPA combined estimate of 30 mpg doesn’t carry the same penalty of higher financing charges, insurance costs and taxes as the more expensive Prius, plus the Toyota will be needing a new $2,585 battery pack when the odometer shows 100,000-150,000 miles.

Which car is best? It sounds like the kind of question for one of those money magazines. Yes, we’ve painted ourselves into a bit of a projected-cost corner with this comparison of the base models of the 2008 Honda Fit and 2008 Toyota Prius, but we think we can get out without stepping on too much wet paint

Over the last 40 years, Toyota has sold more than 30 million examples of the Corolla in 142 countries, earning this automobile the title of the world’s best-selling passenger car on the planet. Even with the introduction of the entry-level Toyota Yaris and the youth-oriented Scion models, Toyota still managed to sell a record-breaking 390,000 Corollas in 2006 and is on track to match that number this year.
